Fundraising
The club sponsors four major fundraisers each year. They are Fashion
Show, Red, White, and Green Auction, Bridge Benefit and Plant Sale.
Money raised through these projects is used for our Scholarship Fund to help
Hopewell and north Mecklenburg High School students and to give scholarships
to women who are in need and attending college to further their career
or to start a new one We also donate money throughout theyear to many
worthy organizations throughout the community such as: Ada Jenkins,
Lake Norman Free Clinci, Barium Springs Children’s Home, Gaitlin Juvenile
Detention Center “Guys
Read Program”, Life Span, Huntersville Free Dental Clinic, Solomon
House, Hope House, and Dove House.
Fall Fashion Show Extravaganza – This show is held in October and
kicks off our fundraising efforts Chico’s, Steinmart, and Cold
Water Creek have been shown in the past This year, our fashions are
by Dillard’s Department Store On Tuesday, October 23, at NorthStone
Country Club, women in the community will be dazzled by holiday fashions,
gift baskets to bid on in silent auction, live auctions, and many, many door
prizes to be given away Did we mention the wonderful gift bags that
every participant will receive? It is a night of fun, glamour, and
raising money for the Education Department and the many scholarships that
they give out at the end of the year
Red, White, & Green Live Auction – In December, there is no guest
speaker Our holiday program involves all members They are asked
to bring something $10 or more in a red, green, or white bag to be auctioned
off by President Denise Carter Members bid according to what they
would like to donate to the club in support of the many projects that are
done in the communities A lot of fun, a lot of money Don’t
be surprised if you spend $35 on a homegrown tomato.
Bridge Benefit – Come February in the dead of winter, when we can’t
go outside to play, you’ll find men and women around a bridge table
raising money for the North Mecklenburg Woman’s Club This benefit’s
proceeds go toward Arts, Community Affairs, Conservation, or International
Affairs Participants enjoy home baked goods for breakfast and enjoy
lunch prepared by North Mecklenburg High School’s culinary department There
are table favors, raffle prizes and a good time for all.
Plant Sale – It’s time to wrap up the year with our beautiful
plant sale Racks and racks of flowers are brought to us from Metrolina
Greenhouses Don’t have time to plant; purchase a container garden
far less expensive than you will find anywhere else Need good planting
soil, we have it straight from the growers Look for our sale in April
and spend you money and know that it is kept in your community.
Cookbooks – What good club doesn’t have a great cookbook? Ours
is fabulous with tested recipes from many members It also is named
for our original name Huntersville Woman’s Club in honor of those members Contact
us for a great gift.
Butterbraids – This mouthwatering pastry comes in a variety of flavors – apple,
cherry, cheesecake, etc. and is purchased frozen. Look for our ladies taking
orders in the fall for the holidays and spring for Easter The club
keeps 40% of the selling price
Charity Days – Belks and Macy’s – These stores sponsor
Charity Days at their stores about once a year Club members work at
the desk at the stores for a few hours during the event selling special discount
tickets We then share all proceeds with the other Charity groups.
